Death fall caused by lack of safety measures

A 52-year old construction worker who had been working without taking safety precautions had fallen from a height of about 60 feet and died at the National Hospital, the Coroner’s Court was told.
The victim, Devage Rupasena, from Walasmulla was employed at a construction project in Kadawatha. The father of two had been rushed to the Ragama Hospital and later transferred to National Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
His friend Suranga Gamlath, (40), giving evidence said the tragedy occurred while they were working on the third floor without safety belts.
At the postmortem Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) Dr. Ratnayake said the death was due to profuse bleeding from a head injury sustained from the fall.
Ashroff Rumi the Inquirer to Sudden Deaths, asked the Kadawatha Police to produce the contractor in the Coroner’s Court.
