Multi-talented Nilan bags many awards at Ballet Festival

Choreographer Nilan Maligaspe’s full-length ballet ‘Thambapanni Pem Yuwala’ (The lovers of Thambapanni) won a number of awards at the recently held State Dance and Ballet Festival 2014. The awards his production won included the Best Actor (Pradeep Gunaratne), Best Actress (Chathuri Perera), and Best Music Director (Sanjeewa Paranamanna) Best Direction and Best Stage Designing both handled by Nilan himself.

A creation by talented choreographer Nilan Maligaspe’s Arpeggio creative dance and drama academy, ‘Thambapanni Pem Yuwala’ was comprised of a large cast with many young dancers from around the country.  Earlier Nilan won awards in 1998, 2003, 2004 and 2005 and has produced ten ballets. ‘Kuveni and Vijaya’ had its first performance in 2012 in Ladakh, India and the show was sponsored by MIMC Ladakh and the India-Sri Lanka Foundation.
