DJ RD opens Lankan stage to the world

Rajeev Dharmasena popularly known as a ‘DJ RD’ is a well known disc jockey in London, UK with years of experience behind him as a club DJ, music producer and an agent manager. TV Times met this popular DJ Rajeev was in Colombo last week, while on a tour of South Asia. ‘It was indeed a good feeling to come back home after such a long time. Specially meeting my parents and loved ones’ he said.

London’s biggest nightclubs have seen DJ RD spinning for celebrities, such as: ‘Will I Am’, Talib Kweli, Raekwon, Trey Songz, ‘Nas & Damien Marley’, Pharoahe Monche, NBA Luol Deng, NFL 49ers, NFL Raiders. DJ RD has deejayed for corporate events, most recently at Europe biggest ‘Carphone Warehouse Ball’ for 16,000 people.
Some of the clubs that RD has made recent DJ appearances are ‘Boujis’, ‘Cirque Le Soi’, ‘Jazz Café’, ‘The Wellington’, ‘Chinawhite’, ‘Embassy’, ‘Club VIP’, ‘40/40 Club’, ‘Club Aura’, ‘The Box’, ‘The Cuckoos Club’, ‘Cascades’, ‘Chicago Hard Rock Café’, ‘Armani’ and ‘House Of Blues’. While in Colombo Rajeev worked for four and a half years at a popular FM station and he said being a radio producer helped him understand melodies, beats and sounds, and knew what to play when DJing professionally.

However, Rajeev soon realized that there’s a limit to what can be done in Sri Lanka, and thus decided to move to England. ‘There I started my life from the scratch. While in Kent I managed to made a name for myself and worked hard to push myself through in London’ he said.
While continuing to DJ, Rajeev also kept contacting record labels, despite not receiving a positive response from them. However, Rajeev continued to try hard and worked with upcoming artistes in London. He also worked with major record labels like Warner music, Sony music and Roc nation on various projects. DJ RD said it has always been fun and interesting working with big names in the music industry and at the same time he was able to learn a lot from them.
Rajeev Dharmasena is the co founder of ‘All Star Agents’, who were the official agents and tour management for ‘Shaggy live in concert in Sri Lanka’ in April 2012 and DJ Dummy (J Cole official DJ ) who performed on New Year’s Eve 2012 in Sri Lanka, All Star Agents also handle artiste bookings worldwide and have booked artistes such as the ‘Wu Tang Clan’ and ‘Soul for Real’ in Dubai.
RD equally focuses on his music production, while DJing. Working alongside legendary singer/ songwriter Andrea Martin of ‘Roc Nation’, representing one half of Hip Hop duo,’ Larynx & DJ RD’. It is an established artiste booking agency and a tour management company with offices in London, UK and Colombo, Sri Lanka.
