Undergrads tie up with FFSL
View(s):The University Sports Association was registered as a league of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) with the participation of the representatives from 14 Universities at the meeting held at the College House of the University of Colombo.
Upali Hewage, the Secretary General of FFSL participated with the Regional League Development officer N.K. Abeysinghe and Directors and Physical Education Instructors of the 14 affiliated Universities for the inaugural meeting which was presided by Prof. N.T. Sohan Wijesekara, the President of University Sports Association (USA). The secretary of the Association, Ruwan Wellassa presented with the football programmes and competitions conducted by the USA and the details their plans. Although there is a football tournament conducted among Universities annually, the most popular sport of the world is a part of University Games which is held in once in every three years internationally. So far Sri Lanka did not have any opportunity to affiliate the University Games and with the registration USA to FFSL as a league, it will provide the talents of local universities to showpiece their potential.
The former Secretary of USA and a Director of Physical Education at the University C. Ratnamudali said although it was to be affiliated to FFSL as a league it was fulfilled only this year. Hewage, the Secretary general of FFSL addressing the gathering said that the President FFSL in his vision has clearly stated that football is for everyone and with the affiliation of USA as a league the game of football will enjoy much presence, more competitions and as a recreational sports for the students of local campuses. – NA
