SP Education Dir. arranges mobile meetings with teachers before polls
View(s):The Southern Province (SP) Director of Education Jayatissa Bloc has arranged a series of mobile meetings with teachers in the SP to discuss their salary anomalies, officials said. The meetings have been described as urgent, to discuss important issues with teachers, states the Director in the circular.
The move has drawn protests from teacher unions, saying it is a violation of election laws.
Some 30,000 teachers in Elpitiya, Ambalangoda, Galle, Udugama, Matara, Akuressa, Deniyaya, Mulatiyana, Walasmulla, Tangalle and Hambantota areas have been summoned for these meetings, ahead of elections.
he GCE Ordinary Level held these days, unions claimed. The Galle area Education Director K.A. Susil Premanath admitted that a circular to this effect has been issued, saying, however, only the Education Director would have to clarify that. Mr Bloc defended the move, saying teachers will get an opportunity to resolve their issues. (EJS)
