The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) will hold a crucial meeting tomorrow in Kandy, where a final decision will be taken as to which of the two main presidential candidates it will support at the January 8 poll. The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has decided to tell its supporters to exercise their franchise, but stayed clear from saying which candidate the party supports.

The SLMC has had several rounds of talks, but has so far failed to arrive at a decision on whether the party would back President Rajapaksa or Mr Maithripala Sirisena.

The eight SLMC members in the present Parliament were all elected or appointed in 2010 on the UNP ticket and crossed over to the Government side in 2010.
Meanwhile, TNA National List MP M.S. Sumanthiran said that the party decided to ask its supporters to exercise their franchise as it is important to do so, while bearing in mind that, at this election, a solution to the Tamil national problem is not a feature.
