After the Sunday Times brought the matter into focus Sri Lanka Cricket took steps to ban ‘Portable Horns’ / “Hooters” at all venues with immediate effect.

The ban came into effect from the 3rd ODI which England won at the Hambantota Stadium.

SLC said “Sri Lanka Cricket Executive Committee arrived at this decision to generally safeguard spectator comfort inside spectator areas of the stadium. This does not mean that the papare bands are banned. The general public are warned that the Security Personnel will search for the above items very strictly and will confiscate the item if found on the spectator.”

SLC Secretary Nishantha Ranatunga explaining matters to the Sunday Times said “Earlier we had banned the horns at International matches, but, it was relaxed subsequently. But, once again there were several complaints from the public while the match officials such as the umpires and the match referee also expressed their concern about the din of the noise. So we decided ban it from the last match which was played at Hambantota”.
