‘Nostalgia for the Light’, Chilean documentary directed by Patricio Guzmán will be screened at 4 pm on November 13 at Sri Lanka Foundation (SLF) Digital Film Academy studio. Focused mostly on the political and social issues that have plagued Chile under Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship, ‘Nostalgia for the Light’ is the monthly documentary film screening at Sri Lanka Foundation.

In Chile’s Atacama Desert, astronomers peer deep into the cosmos in search for answers concerning the origins of life. Nearby, a group of women sift through the sand searching for body parts of loved ones, dumped unceremoniously by Pinochet’s regime. Guzmán focuses on the similarities between astronomers researching humanity’s past, in an astronomical sense, and the struggle of many Chilean women who still search, after decades, for the remnants of their relatives executed during the dictatorship. Patricio Guzmán narrates the documentary himself and the documentary includes interviews and commentary from those affected and from astronomers and archeologists.

Introductory talk on the film is delivered by Chandraguptha Thenuwara while the discussion is moderated by Sugath Mahadiwulwewa.
