Sampath Bank’s Thilina Kandamby hit the first century of the tournament with a valiant 123 in equal number of balls, inclusive of six sixes and eight fours against HNB at the 22nd Singer MCA Premier League 2014/15.

But, Kandamby’s effort did not bare fruit for Sampath Bank, as HNB snatched a one wicket win with a ball to spare.

HNB’s win was fashioned by Deshan Dias (52) and Madhawa Warnapura (39), who were associated in a 98 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket.
In the other match played at the FTZ Grounds John Keells scored an easy win over Seylan Bank by six wickets with 20.2 overs to spare.Shaminda Eranga with 4/37 and Maduka Liyanapathirana 3/32 troubled the bankers to be dismissed for 194 in 49 overs.

Upul Bandara spearheaded the assault on Seylan attack with 62 in 46 balls inclusive of two hits over the ropes and six fours saw John Keells passing Seylan total for the loss of only four wickets.

Defending champions MAS Intimates too got off to a fine start with a crushing 131 runs win over HNB at FTZ Grounds on Wednesday. Taking first strike Unichela batsmen went on a run spree as their top order batsmen Mahela Udawatte (84 in 98 balls inclusive of four fours), Niroshan

Dickwella (52 in 60 deliveries), Chamara Silva (70 n.o. in 45 balls inclusive of a six and ten boundaries) along with Farveez Maharoof (40 with two sixes and four fours) put up a formidable 325 for 5 in 50 overs.

HNB reeling at 69 for 5 at one stage was rescued by Madawa Warnapura who stood on the burning deck, scoring a fighting 101 n.o. in 120 balls inclusive of a six and ten fours.

In the match played at the NCC Grounds Kaushal Silva (78 in 103 balls with a six and five fours) and Romesh Buddika (60 with two sixes and four fours) steered Sampath Bank to a fine five wickets win over John Keells.

John Keells too put up a challenging 251 for 9 in 50 overs rode on a 125 run partnership by Lahiru Malintha (108 in 116 balls inclusive of a six and nine fours) and Roshene Silva (45).

At the MCA two superb batting displays by Dilshan Cooray (76) and Chamara Kapugedera (91) spearheaded Commercial Credit and Finance to a close 23 run win on D/L method over Seylan Bank, who crashed to their second defeat.
