The Rotary District Sri Lanka launched a Rs. 100 million hearing aid project at Cinnamon Lakeside hotel last Sunday in the presence of the visiting Miss Universe China beauty pageant contestants.

Rotary Governor–Sri Lanka and Maldives, Gowri Rajan outlined how an assessment done in Sri Lanka had revealed that almost 1.6 million people are affected with hearing problems. Rotary having identified this issue located a donor to make a difference.

The Miss China pageant finalists vying for the Miss Universe title handed over the first 20 hearing aids to 20 deserving children who otherwise would not have access to the sophisticated equipment worth between Rs. 60,000- 110,000 each. The hearing aids are made in Germany and one thousand such hearing aids will be donated by Rotary across the country.

“Today’s event is unique given that it is a Private – Public -People partnership. Today’s function sponsored by a top corporate like Ewise is the typical PPP model that we use in many of our projects,” commented Governor Ms Rajan.
