16th Western Province Classic Badminton Championship organised by the Western Province Badminton Association came to a close at the St. Sebastian’s College Courts and Moratuwa YWCA Courts last week where over two hundred school players and over 120 adults taking part..
The matches which the spectator interest focussed was the Men’s Over 40 Single and Doubles Finals. Playing in the singles finals P. Rajakumar of Sun Sports Club and T.M. Samath of Shuttle Power Badminton Club where both displayed superb technique and movements proving that they have not lost the fitness of their young days. In the Doubles event too Mangala Gamage and Krishantha Godahewa playing against Priyantha Samarawickrema and Wasantha Perera treated the crowd with a high standard of shuttle placements.
