Sri Lanka’s 10 rupee notes are going out of circulation following the Central Bank’s (CB) decision to stop printing this lower denomination currency replacing it with 10 rupee coins, officials said.

Most of these notes are disfigured and the Central Bank is now issuing coins to all banks replacing the old notes, a senior official of the Central Bank’s (CB) currency management division said. The CB has placed a massive order to mint a series of 10 rupee coins featuring important land marks of Sri Lanka’s 25 administrative districts.
