Creative delights from Ten Sing Norway
View(s):Ten Sing Norway, a performing arts group from Norway are now in Sri Lanka to hold workshops and performances along with local YMCA youth. Ten Sing is an international youth programme engaging teenagers in creative performing arts. Founded in Norway in 1968, it was created to give youth an alternative after-school activity. The YMCA and YWCA organisations offer this activity for youth between the ages of 13 and 19 as an extended leadership programme within the YMCA and YWCA.
On their tour of Sri Lanka, Ten Sing will be in Kandy from February 22 – 28 and will hold a concert at the KCC on February 28. Entrance is free.
Next they head on to Batticaloa from March 1 – 4 and then to Point Pedro from March 5 – 8. They will then come down to Matara from March 9– 11 and then onto Galle from March 12 – 15 where they will be a part of the Galle Music Festival. In Colombo, the last stop on their tour, they will have a mega concert at the YMCA Dehiwela Grounds.
The group consists of approximately 20 young people between the ages of 19-21. Every year Ten Sing Norway creates a show consisting of different creative performing arts including song, music, dance, drama, video/media and other creative expressions. They travel around Norway and the world to perform and hold workshops and concerts.
One of their goals is to make a positive contribution to society and encourage youth to make a change.
Ten Sing is hosted by the National Council of YMCAs of Sri Lanka. There are 38 local YMCAs with over 20,000 members in the country.
