Eye Hospital struck by lightning theft of its conductor

A section of the lightning conductor of the Colombo Eye Hospital is missing, officials said. The conductor worth over Rs 1.5 million was installed six months back.
All Ceylon Nurses’ Union Convener, Gamini Kumarasinghe said that the conductor was installed in an enclosed area, which required special permission from the management to gain access.

“The real problem is that there are hundreds of machines worth millions that need to be looked after. The rains have started with the onset of lightning in a few days. What is the guarantee that these machines will be safe?” he asked.

Hospital Director Dr M.Y.K. Wilfred said that some of the wires connected to the conductor had gone missing and they have lodged a complaint with the police.
In a separate incident, the lightning conductor at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital was also stolen early this week. The equipment worth Rs. 2 million worthwas recovered by the police, and it is reported that a member of the administration unit of the Cancer Hospital was involved.
In addition to that, they have stolen a security system worth Rs. 100,000 which had been newly installed.
