Chairman Cricket Selection Committee Sanath Jayasuriya said yesterday, that fast bowler Lasith Malinga returned to the island on Friday and went in direct for training with the Lankan coaches and trainers.

Jayasuriya told the Sunday Times, “I am very happy that Malinga has retuned to the island on our request and he has resumed his training. He will now undergo these sessions before he would join the Lankan squad for the ODIs and the T-20 matches against Bangladesh, prior to Asia Cup and the World T-20 Championships which also would be worked off in Bangladesh.”

Malinga, who was turning out for the ‘Melbourne Stars ‘ was asked to return to the island along with spinner Ajantha Mendis who was playing for Sydney Thunder in the Australian Big Bash T-20 series.

The limited overs series against Bangladesh is due to commence on February 12 the first T-20 clash between the two countries.
