Trinity down Joes by two
runs on first innings

Trinity had their closest call this season but somehow edged through to a two runs win on the first innings against St. Joseph’s at Asgiriya.
Replying to the Josephian total of 221, the hosts found themselves precariously placed at 212 for 9. However Amrit Sri Mahan and Charith Sudaraka, the last pair, got them over the line. Earlier, Madhawa Munaweera (41 with seven fours) and Chatura Jayasundera (51) had started the recovery. Skipper Ron Chandragupta struck form at the right time and associated with Jayasundera in a fifth wicket stand of 89. This was Chandragupta’s second half century Trinity surely expects more of him.
Fabian Fernando and Hashindra Perera were the chief wicket takers.
The Joes had some batting practice second time around. Dulan de Alwis made a pleasing 25. Raveen Sayer picked up two for a match bag of 7 for 119.
St. Joseph’s 221 and 78 for 3 in 37 overs (Dulan de Alwis 25, Dylan Fernandopulle 13, Pathum Madusanka 13 n.o; R. Sayer 2 for 37)
