The gazette notification says the cars will be imported from Daimler of Germany through the Colombo-based Metropolis Logistics (Pvt) Ltd, which is listed as a logistics company.  However, Dimo Chairman Ranjith Pandithage told the Sunday Times that the vehicles were being imported through his organisation, the sole agent for Mercedes Benz in Sri Lanka.

The Government will now spend Rs. 875.42 million to import these super-luxury cars compared to the earlier figure of Rs 1.63 billion inclusive of taxes, a senior government official said.  The Mercedes Benz S400 model is the latest in the line-up of the super-luxury cars, and it was released to the world market recently. The new model was launched in Colombo on Friday.
