The Flora ‘Heart for Hearts’ charity run, jointly organised by the Ministry of Sports together with the Sirasa/MBC network, drew an enthusiastic group of runners, which also included well-known cricket personalities Kumar Sangakkara and Romesh Kaluwitharana, to ramble across the Sports Ministry Grounds recently for a worthy cause.

The event, which featured a 3 km Fun Run for men and women, a 6 km open run for women and a 9 km open run for men, was held to generate funds for the upgrade of the Karapitiya Hospital’s cardiac unit and perpetuate the message of a healthy lifestyle.

“(It is) good to be involved in a charity run that focuses on a healthy lifestyle,” Sangakkara expressed,
Sri Lanka’s World Cup-winning wicketkeeper batsman, Romesh Kaluwitharana voiced similar sentiments, saying it was “very relevant to create awareness of the need to stay active and healthy. Developing a healthy lifestyle is important not just for individuals but for the whole family. I am very happy to be associated with this event.”

The Chief Guest at the event was the Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Dallas Alahapperuma. – DS
