20th Century AD back in the saddle again

View(s):

Once a household name in Sri Lanka, known for their fine selection and presentation of good music, 20th Century AD led by Peter de Almeida, is now back in action as a five-piece band. The five-member 20th Century AD is still led by veteran Peter de Almeida. The latest addition to the lineup is Sonali Lindsay Sooriyagoda of ‘Kings’ and Friends fame.

The other members of the band are Gerard Warnakula on bass/vocals, Emil Heyns Bergh (one of the original members) on guitar/vocals, Bernard Fernando former Band-Leader of ‘Lazer’ on drums/vocals, and yet another original member of 20th Century AD Lorenz Oorloff on back up guitar/vocals.

20th Century AD has previously performed on contract at prestigious venues like Cat’s Eye Supper Club (Hotel Ceylon Intercontinental), ‘Trip’ Disco (Lanka Oberoi) Hilton Lobby, Peacock Night Club (Mount Royal), Little Hut (Mt. Lavinia Hotel), Sunset Night Club (Brown’s Beach), Flame Room (Havelock Tourinn) and almost all the Resort Hotels in Sri Lanka.

Peter is a former member of the ‘Jetliners’, Esquire Set (presently known as ‘Friends’), Rendezvous (with Jeffrey Fernando and Manilal), Clarence and Super Golden Chimes, ‘Serenade’ (Switzerland) and Australia. In fact we as 20th Century AD was the very first band to performed at a Discotheque in Sri Lanka. That was ‘Trip’ Disco at Lanka Oberoi during the eighties’ Peter said.
