Sinaly wins Girls’ U9 SSC squash title

as she effortlessly tore past Nethanya Mendis to a title-clinching 11/1, 11/2, 11/0 triumph in the age group’s finals, played at the SSC squash courts yesterday.

Her victory saw her complete a strong run which began with a commanding 11/0, 11/2, 11/0 win over H. Rupasinghe. Though falling apart against Shinaly, Mendis had an equally emphatic route into the finals, dismissing M. Jayakody 11/6, 11/2, 11/3 in the opening round.

Jayakody though was not relegated entirely empty-handed, after she took home the second runner-up prize by beating Rupasinghe 11/3, 11/7, 11/7.

The SSC Open Championship is a ranking tournament which will take place from September 7 to 14. It is being conducted by the Sri Lanka Squash Federation (SLSF). The championship attracts the country’s top talent in the sport and this year drew nearly 250 entries for the 21 events that include the men’s and women’s open categories as well as competition for boys and girls in age groups ranging from Under 9 to Veterans’ Over 50. The SSC Open offers winners and runners-up cash prizes in addition to trophies and certificates.
The competition’s finals will be held on September 14 at 5 p.m. – DS
