Sri Lanka’s best website is daily deals site anything.lk, according to BestWeb.lk, a local ‘best website’ competition held on August 14. Aside from winning the Gold award for the best overall website, anything.lk was also further recognised with a Gold aard in the ‘consumer and e-commerce’ category. At the same time, the overall Silver and Bronze went to retail bank site dfcc.lk and fan-site islandcricket.lk, respectively, with each also winning Gold awards in their respective categories, namely ‘corporate, banking and finance’ and ‘sports and entertainment’. dfcc.lk also won a Silver in the ‘Sinhala’ category and a Bronze in the ‘Tamil’ category.

Organised annually by non-profit, the LK Domain Registry, beginning in 2009, the stated goal of the awards has been, since its inception, to popularise “.lk” domain websites. Competition categories include: Overall; Consumer and e-commerce; Corporate, banking and finance; Developer; Government; Media; Open; Public service and educational; Sinhala; Sports and Entertainment; Tamil; and Travel and tourism. Further, the competition also aims to foster aesthetics such as website design, content, etc., with entries being evaluated in keeping with the site’s technical attributes, design, content and interaction. While judging entails voting via the BestWeb.lk website (20 per cent weightage), traffic to the site itself (10 per cent) and the recommendations of a judging panel (70 per cent).

Other notables at BestWeb.lk 2013 included cultural event planner cultura.lk, which won a Silver in the ‘sports and entertainment’ category, and dining and entertainment reviewer yamu.lk, a Silver winner in the ‘travel and tourism’ category. Also highlighted were find-a-tutor service FAT.lk, government information parliament.lk, best prices labaai.lk, Sinhala medical advice surgery.lk and e-commerce portal buyandsell.lk amongst others.
