Veteran musician Sarath Wickrema is to release three compact discs (CDs) with music compositions in celebration of his 40 years of musical journey on June 25 at the Public Library auditorium, Colombo. Two CDs will include his compositions for films and teledramas while the other will include his compositions for Sri Lankan ever popular singer H. R. Jothipala.
Entered the music scene as an instrumentalist attached to Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) in 1973, Sarath Wickrema had done nearly 3000 record breaking number of composition including 30 films and over 150 telefilms.
A number of vocalists including Nanda Malani, Nila Wickremasinghe and Pradeepa Dharmadasa have won awards for singing to his melodies. In 2012 Sarath won the best music director at Sumathi, Raigam, OCIC and State awards for his music direction in ;Arungal’ teledrama. He also had done songs in five languages and had released nearly 100 cassettes.
