Five international companies have been short listed for a multimillion rupee project to lay pipelines from the Colombo harbour to Kolonnawa, Ceylon Petroleum Storage Ltd  (CPSTL)Chairman M.R. W. de Soysa told the Sunday Times yesterday.

Three Chinese companies, two from the US and an Indian company are those who have been short-listed for the 40 million US dollar project which is expected to get underway in two weeks time, he said. He said the selected company wil invest in the project and the CPC expects to pay back the loan in about four years.

The subcontracts for labour required will be taken over by the Sri Lankan Army to cut down costs, he said.  He said under the project two pipe lines will be laid and these would be carrying a bigger volume than those carried by the older pipelines.

He said that these pipelines are being installed to carry refined products. He said originally there were five pipelines of which two cannot be used and therefore the two new pipelines were required.
