Marine Drive gets new hotel, department store at US$40 M

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is bracing itself for a US$40 million, new 270 room luxury hotel and department store in Colombo on the Marine Drive by furniture manufacturer Damro.

Located in the Colombo city at Kollupitiya on one-and-a-half acres of land, Marino Sands would be in a 12-storey building comprising three basements for parking and two floors for a department store and expected to open in 2016, the company said in a statement.
The new hotel would be operated as a BOI project monitored and supervised by the Urban Development Authority and Coast Conservation Department.

Key features of the hotel are a variety of spacious luxury rooms, private balcony for every room, rooftop infinity pool, view of the sea and city and an in-house department store, the release stated. A roof-top restaurant in addition to three sea view restaurants is to serve room guests as well.

The department store on the ground floor would provide guests with a shopping experience with quality branded items at a reasonable prices, it was stated.

The new hotel aims at offering a stress-free stay with a warm service, contemporary comfort and the latest technology along with true Sri Lankan hospitality, the release said.
