Top grade for Cinnamon Lakeside at City Food Safety High Achievers Award ceremony

Cinnamon City Hotels won plaudits at the City Food Safety High Achievers Awards Ceremony with Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo scoring an A+ Grade at the award ceremony held recently with the participation of Minister of Economic Development, Basil Rajapaksa.

Chief Medical Officer of Colombo, Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam, speaking at the event, said that the Public Health Department has made vast progress in many areas due to the work carried out by the laboratory facilities of the Colombo Municipal Council and hoteliers understanding the importance of the maintenance of hygiene, the hotel group said.

“With special mention of Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo as being amongst the Five Star Hotels that have introduced Hygiene Managers, he further announced that the hotel has contributed extremely well to improve Food Hygiene standards today,” the media release said.

The criteria for awarding such grading was based on the management’s commitment, continuous improvement of process development, infrastructure and working environment, cleanliness, food preparation, storage and display, personnel hygiene and use of clean water and raw materials amongst others.

Since January this year the Institute of Food Safety has trained 35 Food Handlers of Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo on food safety aspects. After the successful completion of the exam and the program all 35 food handlers were awarded with certificates and certified Food Handler ID cards.

In the awards event, the topics covered were Food Borne Disease & Prevention, Food Poisoning & Prevention, Personal Hygiene & Food Legislation and Pest Control. The boards of facilitators included Dr. Ruwan Wijemuni, Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health, City of Colombo; Keerthi Marasinghe, Director Institute of Food Safety; S.M. Kalhari Arachchi, Chief Food & Drugs Inspector, City of Colombo and Dr. W.G. Karunathilake, Chief Public Health Inspector, City of Colombo.
