According to the latest 2012/13 annual report of the group, Mr. Perera – also Transport Ministry Secretary – owns directly and indirectly 36.3 million shares out of a total shareholding of 75 million shares. Of the top 20 shareholders at Hayleys, seven including Mr. Perera and separately, his Vallibel Group have over a million shares per person/company.

The (D.S.) Jayasundera Trust is the second largest investor with 11.6 per cent after Mr. Perera.

The Transport Secretary and Royal Ceramics Group recently took over Lanka Ceramics, belonging to CT Holdings, with a near 80 per cent acquisition of the shares. Mr. Perera and his close associate, Nimal Perera, own or control a string of companies and banks like Sampath and Pan Asia.
