MTD Walkers expands into marine sector
View(s):MTD Walkers PLC (MTD) the infrastructure development company, is planning through its subsidiary – Colombo Engineering, to expand into the marine sector and engage in dry-dock operations, officials says.
It is a US$ 30 million project that will start in end-2013. “This was one of the few fields that we weren’t in. We see a large potential in this sector,” an official said.
MTD has investments and firms ranging from power, road construction, mechanical engineering, air-conditioning and refrigeration, plantation and machinery together with heavy foundation.
The official said the company is keen to consolidate its investments and bring in an ‘easily identifiable’ name. Accordingly, Walker Sons & Company Ltd, Walker Sons & Company Engineers (Pvt) Ltd., Walker Sons & Company (Distributors) Ltd, Walkers Piling (Pvt) Ltd., MTD Walkers Projects Ltd, CML-MTD Construction Ltd, Northern Power Company (Pvt) Ltd, etc, will come under one roof.
He added that the company is now consolidating all its investments and a clear brand will supplement this exercise. “We will complete this (branding) within this financial year in a bid to better position the company,” he added.
