The entire complex was refurbished and several new additions were made including the newly designed auditorium, President’s room and a new Boardroom at a cost of approximately Rs.32 million, Deputy President Sunil Wijesinghe told the media following the opening. The new auditorium has a capacity of 240 that would be able to provide the necessary training of the chamber members, Mr. Wijesinghe said. He also observed that with more business delegations arriving in the country in the post war period and other diplomatic missions wanting to meet the local business community, this would be an ideal venue for which the boardroom was also refurbished. In addition, the complex also houses a reception area for hosting of functions as well and this ensures the chamber is quite “self-sufficient,” Mr. Wijesinghe noted. NCCSL President Asoka Hettigoda addressing the gathering at the opening function said this new auditorium would assist in boosting local businesses as they would be able to conduct the required seminars and other forums.

He also noted government’s commitment towards infrastructure developments and the development of the economy as a whole.
