The Sri Lanka Conventions Bureau (SLCB) and SriLankan Airlines, under the joint programme between the two organisations, this week arranged to bring in over 75 MICE operators cum meetings’ planners and incentive houses as well as Indian media in order to give them a “real life experience to promote Sri Lanka among their clientele”.

In a media statement, the SLCB said the delegation arrived from various major cities in India on 29th October and left Sri Lanka on 3 November.

“We will showcase Sri Lanka being an island that offers diversity of locations from city to mountains, wildlife and eco based, and heritage sites where meetings and incentive programmes can take place,” said Vipula Wanigasekera, SLCB General Manager, an institution that is responsible for promoting MICE Tourism, in a statement before the visitors arrived.

The conference capacity in the cities has increased and that too needs to be conveyed to this group of MICE operators, he said. SLAPCEO – Sri Lanka Association of Professional Conference and Exhibition Organisers assisted the hosts by organising one to one sessions for industry members to meet the operators.

“We are thankful to SriLankan Airlines for initiating this programme and taking their share of responsibility not only by inviting the MICE delegates through the Regional Managers but also flying them down to Sri Lanka in the national carrier,” said Mr. Wanigasekera.
