Four hotels in Sri Lanka have been fully sponsored for its participation at the World Travel Mart (WTM) 2012 in the UK for adhering to green standards by the European Union-funded SWITCH Asia Greening Sri Lanka Hotels Project. In a media release issued last week, the project stated they would be fully sponsoring Randholee Resort – Kandy, Thambapanni Retreat and Nooit Gedacht Heritage Hotel – Unawatuna and Green Grass Hotel – Jaffna, who have performed well from 282 registered hotels, to attend WTM in the UK, which is a leading global event for the travel industry.

One of the key aspects of the ongoing EU SWITCH-Asia Greening Sri Lanka Hotels Project is to publicize the good work done by Sri Lankan hotels internationally, towards energy and environmental conservation, the release said.

This opportunity would enable the selected hotels to meet the global travel trade, network, negotiate and conduct business and gain competitive advantage for their business and stay abreast with the latest development in the travel and tourism industry, the statement added. It is expected that the programme would provide publicity at the WTM and enhance the status of Sri Lanka Tourism as a more Sustainable Tourist Destination, the release also said.
