Moving ahead with ACCAView(s):
“Try as you might, accountants are here to stay. Whether it be good or bad economies, the value of an accountant is significant. No matter what happens, the business sector and the economy as a whole will always need accountants. This is the reason I wanted a career in Accountancy. However in a fast changing world, a mere paper qualification that fits only one sector of society is no longer in demand. Instead the world now concentrates on degrees and qualifications that have the flexibility to work across sectors and industries.
ACCA, creates the ideal platform for students to increase knowledge in a number of areas as it is a degree that has been recognised globally to fit into any hats in the society. Therefore the qualification is an ideal tool to battle the future,”so stated Nadeera Udawatte, a student at the Colombo University doing her Bachelors in Management and Finance, aiming of becoming a CFO or a Managing Director in the next ten years.
“Due to the knowledge I have gained through ACCA, I find my studies at the University very easy and have always managed to score high marks in my exams at the University. In fact I have been one of the students in my batch that have constantly continued to gain top marks in all the subjects,” she said.
Finding the ACCA Qualification to be very dynamic and relevant to the ever-changing business world, Nadeera assured that she is committed to engage in continuous professional development to be ACCA qualified. ”Having the ACCA Qualification will make a big difference to my career as it opens various doors due to the flexibility of study.”
Believing that accountancy will always hold good job opportunities with high pay, her decision to chose accountancy has helped her gain in depth knowledge in the world of business. “While working as an accountant, you will experience the differences and similarities of how business is done in a variety of industries. In addition, preparing and verifying financial statements for clients will provide a vast bank of knowledge about how businesses must manage their money in order to be successful. Many people who begin their working life with careers in accounting can easily work in other areas of business due to this reason.
With the variety of choices now in the market, why choose ACCA? “I was made to understand that with the ACCA qualification you not only gain specialist knowledge in finance and accounting, but also acquire valuable skills in organisational management and strategy.” It also comprehensively covers the technical and management skills accountants are expected to master. The qualification equips finance professionals with knowledge and skills which are diverse yet dynamic as the curriculum includes tax, audit and business law as well as the core accountancy subjects.
The ACCA combines the benefits of traditional accounting skills with a wide ranging and forward looking syllabus which recognises that finance professionals are increasingly required to demonstrate strategic thinking, excellent communication skills, people skills and fluency with information technology, she said.
“I also came to know that ACCA has achieved strong recognition worldwide by building relationships with influential organisations including, local and multinational companies, government entities such as the United Nations and the World Bank; and that globally, many employers respected the qualification.”
And to make things easier the staff and support system at ACCA are both encouraging and helpful. Nadeera recalls how the staff were constantly noting the students progress while delivering syllabus related notes. The Library facilities which holds all relevant books and study material that students need such as Kaplan, BPP and GTG was an additional benefit.
“This is a qualification I have no qualms in promoting. It has helped me build my ambitions and goals and taught me valuable life lessons which will be hard to erase. For the future, such qualifications are a must if ones target is to reach the zenith,” she stated.
