New lab for Biomedical Technologies

A Research & Development Laboratory for Biomedical Technologies will be set up under an agreement signed between the University of Moratuwa and Premium International at a ceremony held recently at the Taj Samudra Hotel.

This laboratory, that will develop instrumentation and technologies that can be commercialized to the marketplace and save foreign exchange, will be driven by research engineers, post doctoral and research faculty of the University of Moratuwa.
The combined investment by both the university and Premium International is around Rs. 25 million for the first two years, with future investment being based on the progress of the research.

Moratuwa University Vice Chancellor Prof. Ananda Jayawardena; the Dean of the Engineering Faculty Prof. U. G. A. Puswewala; the head of the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering Dr. Ajith Pasqual; Premium International Group General Manager Wesak Wijeratne, Director Operations Mahesh Fernando and Chief Operations Officer Nigel Forbes; Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon Dr. Sunil Perera; the Dean of the Colombo Medical Faculty Prof. Rohan Jayasekara and Prof. Vajira Dissanayaka of the Colombo Medical Faculty were among those present at this event.

Premium International is a diversified corporate entity with an interest in healthcare industrial solutions construction and project management.
