The Interact club of royal college (ICRC) held their Talent Search last Friday, June 22. Ten performers, from various disciplines took to the stage of the Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre in an epic battle for dominance in their quest to be the next big thing. Some of the soloists who participated were Reshmi Gomez, Chrisni Mendes, Dilina Aarewatte, Raaya Gomez, while bands in the calibre of the Accidentals, Running from Lions, Antharbhawaya and Trip Switch vie for victory in the Bands category.

The ICRC is the oldest club of the most prestigious and premiere student organization networks in Sri Lanka and the third oldest in South Asia. Since its inception in 1965, the ICRC has grown from strength to strength and has celebrated 44 years of brilliance and a commitment to excellence.

Initiated in 1995, Talent Search was the brainchild of the Interact Club of Royal College.
Over the span of its 12 year run, Talent Search went from being a mere school based talent show, to a critically acclaimed, award winning contest, noted for its professionalism and has become a ‘must attend’ fixture on the youth calendar. However, the greatest testament to its excellence was the exclusive contract signed with Pepsi Cola to sponsor the event in 2004 & 2005, thus becoming the first student initiative to be sponsored by a multi-national company.

The Overall Talent Search Champion for the year 2012 was awarded to Shonel Perera, a 17 year-old Beatboxer, and the nephew of & protégé to the legendary Julius Mitchell who is one of the best beatboxers in the island.
In the Solo Singing Category the Winner was Raaya Gomez (18) from St. Bridgets’ Convent, whose song choices for the finals were “Fix You” by Coldplay & “According to you” by Orianthi. The runner up was Dilina Aarewatte (14), a Royalist, who was the youngest Talent Search competitor this year.

In the Bands Category the Winner was Tripswitch and the runner up was Accidentals. In the Beatboxing Category the Winner was Shonel Perera and the runner up was Diego Samson.
