Gateway Graduate school offers scholarships

Gateway Graduate School is to offer scholarships to post Advanced Level (both Sri Lankan and London) students who have been successful at ALs but not been able to secure a place at a University in Sri Lanka or abroad. Ruwini Atukorala, a Senior Manager at Gateway mentions that, Gateway has come up with this initiative to assist deserving students who are qualified to enter University but are unable to do so due to the limited places available in the country. She says that the Private Institutions who vigorously promote the Foundation courses for the post OL Sector, are also not doing enough to encourage and motivate these high academic achievers who have strived for over two years to achieve good results at Advanced Level.

Based on the merits, students are offered scholarships ranging from 40 – 100% for their first full year of study. Those who have got 3 As are awarded 100% scholarships where their entire Registration and Tuition fees are waived off. Those with 3 Bs or more are provided with 70% scholarships while those with 3 Cs or more are entitled for 40% scholarships. This limited offer is made available to the next intake in February for whom registrations are now open.

Having strengthened its position in the Primary and Secondary sectors, Gateway has opened new horizons in tertiary education through its Graduate School that has links with reputed International Universities across the world.

Gateway Graduate School, recently joined hands with the University of Canterbury; New Zealand’s prestigious University that is ranked among the top 2% in the world, to provide structured pathways to students to begin their Undergraduate Degrees in Sri Lanka and graduate in New Zealand. The University of Canterbury, established in 1873 by scholars of Oxford and Cambridge, has gained an international reputation for academic excellence in teaching and research. Its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are well recognised worldwide, and aim to foster intellectual independence, critical thinking, and professional excellence in every field.

The tuition and accommodation costs at University of Canterbury are approximately 35% less than in Universities in Australia and the United Kingdom. The degree programmes which are expected to commence in February 2012 are offered under 4 main disciplines; Engineering, Science, Commerce and Arts. The Engineering (B.E.) courses include Electrical & Electronic, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Computer, Civil, Natural Resources, Forest and Chemical & Process Engineering. International students are provided with opportunities to gain work experience and supplement their funds while studying. The students also have the possibility of working in New Zealand after they have completed their studies. Once they have completed their studies in NZ, and obtained a NZ qualification, they may be eligible for a Graduate Job Search Visa that is designed to assist eligible graduates in finding work in New Zealand.

Gateway Graduate School, in partnership with NCC Education UK, also offers a choice of two career pathways to complete Degrees in Business Computing and Information Systems or Business Administration, here in Sri Lanka. In both Degrees, students are able to receive industrial recognized qualifications – Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas, from NCC Education UK on successful completion of the first and the second years.
