What I know about Christmas

By Baasimah Ahamed (12 years), Bishop’s College

Hello! I would like to tell you of what I know about Christmas. During the month of Christmas,
what most Christians do is give for the needy and poor people. But I think that the month of Christmas is to forgive and to forget, as people make mistakes whether they are big or small.

During Christmas time, people decorate their shops and homes and most of all there is always a Christmas tree full of lights and a Santa smiling at you. There are shops full of Christmas goodies with yummy Christmas cakes and chocolates.

A warm hug or a gentle smile is all that you really need to make a person happy. A kind word and a loving gift can make your Christmas better than ever.

My Christmas concert

By Anushri Udamulla (6 years), Gateway College

I had my school Christmas concert on December 2, at the Bishop’s College auditorium. I was acting as a flower. I loved the costume. It was a frilly dress with lots of beads and sequins. It was red and pink.
There were lots of decorations on the stage. My friend was also a flower in a different colour. She was in the same act as me. There were lots of other characters. They took us to the dressing room to put on makeup and hairstyles. I was twisting and twisting in the dance. I enjoyed the dance. My parents said it was a lovely dance.

There are several beautiful towns in Sri Lanka. Kandy is one of them. Kandy is the main town in the Central province.

The world famous Dalada Maligawa is situated in Kandy. It is a sacred place as the Lord Buddha’s Tooth Relic is enshrined there. The Kandy Perahera is also world famous. It is held in the month of July every year.

Not only locals, but also thousands of tourists come to see this attractive procession. The Maligawa Tusker takes the Sacred Tooth Relic on its back, round the town. There are whip crackers, and Kandyan
dancers in this procession too.

The most beautiful botanical gardens in Sri Lanka is situated a few miles from Kandy. It is in Peradeniya. It is full of nice flowers and various kinds of trees. It has become a popular place among tourists too. Kandy Lake is situated in the heart of the Kandy town.

How I enjoy Christmas

By Florancia Fernando (Grade 3), Cambridge International

Christmas is celebrated by Christians. We go to church at midnight 12.00. We keep cribs and beautifully
decorated Christmas trees. Santa Claus comes to our homes and gives us gifts.

We burn crackers on Christmas Day. My friends and I sing carols, songs and play. I love Christmas very much. I enjoy Christmas very much.
