A rare visit by ‘Big Cat Diary’ couple

The BBC's 'famed 'Big Cat Diary' couple, Jonathan and Angela Scott, photographers, film producers and conservationists visited Sri Lanka after a chance encounter with wildlife enthusiast Janaka Dassanayaka who met them while flying to Bandhavgarh in India to spend a few days spotting the Bengal tigers and urged them to visit Sri Lanka.

The legends at work

Janaka handed over the task of planning and co-ordinating their visit to his friend and fellow conservationist Chitral Jayathilake, head of the John Keells eco team.

The couple visited Dambulla, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, and Kandy and had full four days at Yala, where they enjoyed some 17 leopard sightings.

They wrapped up their visit with a presentation at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel of their work on various subjects to an appreciative audience.
