Mutur ferry breakdown inconveniences public

With the breakdown of the two motor launches –Seruvila 2 and Mathumai-- the passenger launch service between Trincomalee and Mutur has come to a halt.

When the ‘Mathumai’ broke down three months ago, the ‘Seruvila-2’ was forced to take on twice its payload, plying between Trincomalee and Mutur carrying not only the normal load of regular passengers –office workers-- but hundreds of tourists and pilgrims to the historic Seruvila Raja Maha Viharaya as well.

The sea journey between Trinco and Mutur took a mere 45 minutes. However, since the ‘Seruvila-2’ broke down and had to be taken for repairs, office workers, tourists and pilgrims have been forced to take the 100 km land route by public transport or in the alternative hire private vehicles to make the journey. This has put the public to great inconvenience.
