Wimal’s bogus relative arrested

A woman who claimed to be a close relative of Minister Wimal Weerawansa and allegedly defrauded several people to the tune of Rs. 3 million by promising them government jobs was arrested by Mirihana Police yesterday.

The 55-year-old woman had collected Rs. 150,000 each from 18 people promising them jobs through Mr. Weerawansa’s intervention in the Ports Authority, Petroleum Corporation and Sri Lanka Cricket Board, police said.

They said they acted on a complaint from Minister Weerawansa himself and used a female constable as a decoy to arrest the woman.
