The High Commission of India, Colombo and the Indian Council of Cultural Relations announced the endowment of forty scholarships for Sri Lankan Nationals for undergraduate courses under the “Scheme of Scholarships for Nationals of Sri Lanka.” These scholarships are awarded for selected courses of study at numerous Indian universities for academic sessions commencing in 2010.
The scholarships cover complete tuition fees for the entire duration of the course. Students are also paid a monthly sustenance and accommodation allowance. An annual grant for books and stationary, health care facilities, first class train fare and an annual grant for educational tours to various parts of the country, in addition to other auxiliary benefits will also be awarded to recipients.
Among the many criteria for eligibility, applicants should be in good health, possess a sound knowledge of English language (as the medium of instruction in India is English) and have passed all subjects at the G.C.E. A/L Examination conducted by the Department of Examination, Sri Lanka, with subjects relevant to the field applicants intend to apply for.

The selection for these scholarships will be done by the High Commission of India, in consultation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Government of Sri Lanka. The last day of submission of applications is January 4, 2010.
