War is over
By Hasith Samayawardhena (10 years), Royal College

The war raged by the Tamil Tigers against the Sri Lankan Government for three decades is
finished forever. The Tamil Tigers, said to be the most ruthless terrorists in the whole world were defeated by our valiant soldiers in an unprecedented manner.

I take my hat off to the President, the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Commanders of the Army, Navy and Air Force and the Inspector General of Police, for giving the leadership to the soldiers on the battlefront, who dedicated their lives to bring peace to our motherland.

I shudder to think of the hardship we had to undergo when the Tamil Tigers were in top form. Terrorists targeted not only our brave soldiers, but also innocent civilians. At times, I too had to stay at home without attending school, due to the bomb scares. Now we can heave a sigh of relief and lead a normal life.

The next step should be re-building the country, giving more prominence and importance to the North which was devastated by the war. That is the way by which we can make our Tamil brothers and sisters understand that we are their friends, not enemies.

Kindness

By Shenali Wijesinghe (10 years), Asian International School

I wander everywhere
In people's shadows, in the tiger's lair
I roam around the woods
I hide in people's hoods

I do feel lonely sometimes
So I write poems which rhyme
I enjoy myself everyday
I try to make people good in everyway

Some people are in the shadow of bad
So they do not take benefit of me,
so they stay bad
Those people are very unruly and rude
It will take a long time to make them good

I will explain a bit about me,
I'm gold in colour, you see
I sprinkle myself everywhere
Even on animals such as bears
I make people good I try as hard as I can
People call me kindness
I think you've heard of me

Dinosaurs

By Yohan Meegahage (Grade 4), Wesley College

Dinosaurs ruled the world for more than 160 years before they died. There were lots of kinds of dinosaurs like plant-eaters and meat-eaters. The Brachiosaurus was one of the largest dinosaurs that ever lived. They had very long necks. Euoplocephalas had a very strong bone at the end of its tail. The Stegosaurus had big and sharp thorns on its body and tail.

The Tyrannosaurus Rex was a carnivorous dinosaur. They were very strong dinosaurs.

The Gigantosaurus was a large reptile. It ate the flesh of other dinosaurs like Parasauropholus and other plant-eaters. The dinosaurs died because of a large meteorite that slammed into the earth, killing all the dinosaurs.
