Hasalaka Hospital reopens after renovations

The newly renovated Hasalaka Government Hospital in Hasalaka town has re-opened after a Rs.1 million community development project undertaken by the Sumithra Group and its social committee in collaboration with Columbia Sportswear Company.

The project was completed on March 3, 2009 after commencing in December 2008. The Sumithra Group said the hospital was in need to renovate its OPD, male ward and toilets and required a dining room for patients. The ward and the OPD were re-painted and repairs were also made to the front side fence of the hospital. The Sumithra Group said all the name board, chairs at the OPD and tables and chairs to the dining room were provided as resources for the hospital.

The funds used for the project was borne equally by the Sumithra Group and Columbia Sportwear. Phoenix Industries Ltd in Welisara donated 60 plastic chairs.

The re-opening ceremony of the hospital on 3 March was attended by chief guests, the Managing Director of the Sumithra Group Jafar Satar and Country Director of Columbia Sportswear Girish Menon. At the ceremony, the hospital staff were gifted with fabrics for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
