A narrow escape from trouble
12 – 14 years

One afternoon my mother requested me to go to the nearby market to buy some vegetables.I jumped on my bicycle and started riding towards the market. On the way an extraordinary thought came to my mind. I released my hands from the handle bars and raised them up in the air. As there was a slope in the road,
I really enjoyed flying in the air like a bee.

Suddenly, a stray dog sprang onto my bicycle barking fiercely. In a second I jumped from my bicycle. Fortunately I had landed onto some grass and I was happy to find myself without any injury.

The frightened dog had run away leaving me. No one was around me. I was weak and could hardly sit up. I got slowly to my feet and staggered to my bicycle. Though I had a narrow escape, my bicycle had been badly damaged. Instead of going to the market, I turned back home pushing my broken bicycle. I was thoroughly warned by my parents and I determined not to do such foolish things ever after.

My first school memories

9 – 11 years

Still I can remember how I was dragged to Leeds International School, Panadura by my parents on the very first day. To stop my crying, my class teacher gave me a big ball of clay. I rolled it on the desk and made lots of things. I forgot to cry. It was a nicely decorated, neat and clean classroom.

There I learnt how to read and write, to draw pictures, to play together, to share things, good habits and manners. After four years I shifted to Galle Leeds from Panadura.

In Galle Leeds, I met lots of new friends. With them, I sat for term tests, participated in sports meets, concerts and many more. I would never forget those wonderful school days.

Leeds guided me and shaped me. Though I left Leeds, she will be in my heart forever.

Creepy, crawly things

8 years and below

There are many insects that surround us. Some are small and others are big. It's nice to see the busy ants going round collecting food. Caterpillars eat the leaves and become beautiful butterflies.

Earthworms and snails help the farmers to loosen the soil. Even the lizards and geckos catch small insects.

Snakes, centipedes, millipedes and spiders are dangerous. They hide in corners, come out and bite and sting. They have colours to match the environment. Chameleons get green, red and yellow colours. Bugs and beetles are disturbing creatures but the lady bug is beautiful. Creepy, crawly things make the world beautiful.
