Another social project by BCAS Kandy campus undergraduate students

BCAS Staff handover a school bag to a student

The British College of Applied Studies (BCAS), Kandy has identified a social work session through the involvement of the HND Students Union (HSU) to undertake a magnanimous project on building up a school, namely B/Yaahalagamuwa Junior Vidyalaya that provides education from grade 1-10, that did not have the basic facilities because of its geographical location in the Uva district.

This then has lot of disadvantages to the learners who were deprived of the basic facilities to be provided by their parents and also the limited facilities that were identifiable by the state to enhance a development atmosphere of the learners of the school. The HND Students Union undertook this noble project, which they carried out for approximately two months and it was their total commitment and dedication that brought about the success of the project.

The facilitators Mr. Kithsiri Jayakody (Team Leader) and Mr. Eranga De Silva (HND Coordinator) under the patronizing of the Director of the college Mr. J.M. Niwas in association with the direct involvement of the HSU members, who collected the funds plus other basics such as school bags, stationeries, medi-packs and sports goods ( worth of 1,50,00.00Rs) to enable them to develop their academic and sports activities that were not being observed for this unfortunate school going population.

The activity of this project was done on 07th April 2009. As a sequel to a prior Sinhala and Tamil New Year the students of the B/Yaahalagamuwa Junior Vidyalaya, staff and parents were over whelmed and rejoiced and this was exhibited through the facial expressions that thousand words cannot be sufficient to adorn this page. This is one such social service activity that students of Kandy BCAS have done previously, and now and also to the future too.
