The institute that nurtures creativity and originality to make a niche for future fashion professionals is the vision of the premiere fashion education institute in the country - Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT) . Since its inception in August 2000 LIFT committed its focus towards fashion education that brought various carrier options for budding designers. The courses offered at LIFT covers the central areas of visual studies, costume history, fashion illustration, Pattern making, garment manufacturing, design development, presentation skills, Computer aided design with the support of Lectra, textiles, embroidery, Fashion styling, Fashion business studies and portfolio development. As per the requirement of the student's one could select the one year Diploma in Fashion Design course or the two year Advanced diploma in Fashion. The availability of week end classes allows employed individuals to continue their studies on Saturdays to gain knowledge and professional qualifications.

A highly equipped infrastructure and the fashion studios of LIFT is an exclusive investment programme over the last 9 years. LIFT is home to 150 full-time and part-time students. The links with the University of Northampton - UK, Robert Gordon University -Scotland and Raffles Design Institute - Singapore The Institute has its own unique way to meet the interest of the fashion community. In order to provide the students with vast exposure to the trends in the fashion industry, a variety of seminars, fashion lecture days, fashion exhibitions and fashion workshops are conducted as student interest programs. All the above activities are designed in such a way so as to utilize the creative potential of the budding designers to the fullest at the same time providing them with all market exposure that they require to survive and succeed in the market after their graduation. LIFT welcomes international students and values the richness and cultural diversity they bring to the academic community.

LIFT Gallery
A concept launched to promote young fashion designers to become fashion entrepreneurs. The space allocated within the institute in the heart of Colombo has made easy access to customers to meet designers for a variety of business ventures. May it be to purchase an outfit, design a garment for a special occasion, design fashion collections for the industry or events, Fashion for brand promotions, conceptual developments for boutiques with advice and sampling on visual merchandising are just a few to mention that the designers are available for at the Gallery. The focus of the gallery is to provide experience for the new designers who are ready to launch their labels and be self employed as designers.

LIFT Overseas Study Placement Center
LIFT overseas Study Placement Center is a subsidiary of Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology that provides guidance to students who wish to further their higher studies abroad. LIFT is the representative for the University of Northampton - UK and Raffles Education Network - Singapore. It provides students the opportunity of studying various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in England, Scotland, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand & India. A wide range of Courses are available to select from. Undergraduate and postgraduate courses covering the subject areas of Fashion, Textiles, Accounting, Business, Management, Computing, Marketing, Photography, Journalism, Travel & Tourism, Advertising, Architecture, Dance, Creative design, Interior design and many more. Students who complete courses at LIFT in fashion design can apply for higher entries in to the BA (Hones) program with international merit based scholarships up to 30%. The complete application process for university entries until the student reaches the campus abroad will be taken care by LIFT Overseas study Placement Center.

In the past LIFT has formed many services beyond fashion education and it will continue to offer many services related to the fashion industry in the future.
