Odds and Ends

Dan the Man!

The verbal antics of our Rep for the UN in Europe eventually led to his contract running out after two years.Although the Boss at the Foreign Office tried his best to shift the Rep even before the contract period was over, those in ‘higher’ places thought otherwise. However, the Rep kept the attacks coming and of late, three persons took serious offence at what the Man kept saying.

The first complaint went from Old Blighty followed by from Pope land. Then came the real back breaker, when the Rep went after the Land of the Jews in the Middle East. No sooner the Ambo of that state landed in Colombo from the neighbouring country, it was the Defence Boss that pinned the final nail on the Rep’s fate.

A defend-the-Rep-lobby soon mushroomed with articles in the media and support from Legal Eagles, Human Rights bosses and the admin boss of the Foreign Office. Lo and behold, an extension of one more year is now a sealed deal, courtesy of the former UN man from the Foreign Office, who waited patiently till the political boss at the FO to take wing before attending to the formalities to make Dan the Man a happy man.

The colour that matters

The “satakaya” has become a fashion accessory for many politicians since President Mahinda Rajapaksa become the head of State but it seems the colour of the “satakaya’, matters as well.

A Minister from the Galle district who crossed over to the government side from the UNP who used to sport a green “satakaya’ is conspicuous by the fact he no longer wears it.

It is rumoured the reason for it is that his boss has put in a word saying, by all means wear the “satakaya” but it should be in the correct colour. Guess everyone is not colour blind.
