Lovers settle for a draw at Galle Stadium - 104th Battle of the Lovers

Richmond and Mahinda settled for a draw in their 104th Battle of the Lovers concluded at the Galle Stadium yesterday. Richmond after being bowled out for a lowly 143 had Mahinda in a spot of bother on 85 for 5 at lunch but they failed to keep up the momentum as Mahinda recovered to 146 for 7 before declaring.

It was an unbeaten knock of 55 from Denuwan Rajakaruna which enabled Mahinda recover. Richmond batting the second time was 44 for 6 when stumps were drawn. Richmond 143 (T. Nadeera 37, Yasodha Lanka 32, Kusal Praboda 32, Prabasara Waduge 26;Kaushalya Gajasinghe 4 for 43, Romesh Buddika 3 for 44, Chalana de Silva 2 for 18) and 44 for 6 (Nisala Tharaka 3 for 13, Kaushalya Gajasinghe 2 for 2)

Mahinda (30/1 o’night) 146 for 7 declared (Sajith Lakmal 15, Romesh Buddika 15, Denuwan Rajakaruna 55 n.o., Tharaka Nimesh 23 n.o.: Irosh Samarasuriya 4 for 59)
