www.edex.lk, the official website of the country's premier career related education forum, will serve as a 24/7 information & service portal related to education and careers throughout the year, instead of being a website which only promotes the event, the organizers of EDEX - 2009, announced recently.
"During the periods the EDEX website was active in the past years, it received an ever increasing response from the general public as well as the corporate sector. A very large number of CVs had been posted by potential higher education & job seekers using the facility provided on the EDEX website. Many organizations who had partnered with us scrutinized these CVs and contacted individuals they were interested in. However, this service was provided only during a limited time span, up to the conclusion of the event", the Head of Web Management of the EDEX - 2009 organizing committee, Prium Kasturiratne, stated.
"We saw the opportunity to broaden our services to the public as well as our partner organizations by providing the CV posting & matching facility as well as most of our other web based services continuously throughout the year. This could be highlighted as one of the key reasons which led to the decision of having the www.edex.lk website up and running throughout the entire year", he added.
The organizers of EDEX - 2009, utilizing their partnership with the Ministry of Education, have taken steps to popularize the exhibition amongst children and other interested parties in the rural communities as well, via the www.edex.lk website. The SchoolNet programme and the Nenasala Centers are expected to play a key role in this regard. A programme has already been initiated by the event's organizers to create awareness on the EDEX - 2009 exhibition among the Managers of Nenasala Centers and thereby to direct individuals using such centers to visit the www.edex.lk site.
NDB, has undertaken to sponsor the hosting of the www.edex.lk website for the coming year.
"Features such as real time updating of the website and uploading special video clips related to the event will be very much beneficial to those who are unable to visit the event. Creating of a separate login system with unique usernames and passwords for stall holders, is expected to make communication between each stall holder and the organizers convenient and cost effective, especially if the stall holder is a foreign entity," the organizers of EDEX - 2009, further stated , elaborating on a few web based facilities directly linked with the event and its organization. |
