All set for EDEX - 2009

All basic preoperational activities pertaining to EDEX - 2009, the national career oriented educational exhibition, have now been completed, the Chairman of the EDEX - 2009 organizing committee Kamal Abeysinghe announced, through a media release recently.

EDEX, which is undoubtedly the country's premier career oriented education exhibition, aimed at empowering Sri Lankan youth to be globally competitive, is a flagship project of the Royal College Union (RCU) conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The Exhibition is to be held for the 6th consecutive year on from the 23rd to the 25th of January 2009, at the BMICH and the following week at Queens Hotel, Kandy.

According to the Chairman of the EDEX - 2009 organizing committee, those present at the exhibition could interact with representatives of institutes covering almost all spheres of the education arena. Many individuals representing educational institutions which conduct courses related to new disciplines in traditional professions such as medicine engineering and others too are expected to be present among others at this year's exhibition.

Genetic Technology, Waste Management & Industrial Waste Management, Environ Studies, Linguistics, Building Management & Planning, Bio Chemistry, and Hospitality Management are a few novel and relatively new fields pertaining to traditional professions, which students who visit EDEX - 2009 could obtain information on, from over 250 educational stalls which are to be set up by various institutions at the exhibition premises.

Since the aim of EDEX is to make Sri Lankan youth globally competitive, EDEX - 2009 has adopted the futuristic theme "G0 Green". Through adopting this theme, the EDEX - 2009 organizers expect to educate the Sri Lankan youth on employment opportunities related to sustainable living, dubbed as 'Green Collar Jobs, which are expected to replace a substantial amount of the conventional blue and white collar jobs globally in the near future, due to the growing interest in 'sustainable living' and conserving natural recourses.

Several stalls to enlighten the policy makers as well as the general public of the country on the Go Green concept, the global trends related to sustainable living, green collar jobs and what we could do to conserve natural resources before it is too late, is expected to be a special feature at EDEX - 2009.
Whilst thanking all RCU members including the Organizing Committee of EDEX - 2009 who have and will be working hard till end January 2009 to make the exhibition a success, the President of the RCU, Rizan Nazeer, along with the Chairman of the EDEX - 2009 organizing Committee, Kamal Abeysinghe, invited all those interested in career related education to be present at the EDEX - 2009 exhibition and be enlightened on the great choices, options and opportunities the world of education has to offer.
