Dhanika takes Junior golf title
 
Dhanika de Silva, the fifteen-year-old British School student playing three rounds of steady golf laid claim to the 2008 Sri Lanka Junior Open Championship at the Ridgeways course on Friday. With a satisfactory first round 83 followed up by two very impressive rounds of 76 and 79, young de Silva finished with a gross score of 238 stamping his mark in the under-18 junior golf circuit. Championship runner up Chanaka Perera finished on a gross 255.

Greig Ritchie won the Gold Division for youngsters in the 15-17 year age group with a gross score of 257 with Thamindu N. Silva coming in second. The Silver Division for 11-14 year olds was won by Vishal Jayasekera with a gross of 267 followed by Lochana Matthew with 270. Prashan Peiris won the 11 and under category while Ishara Feranando was runner up.

The Junior Open organized by the Sri Lanka Golf Union is the most prestigious tournament for young golfers in Sri Lanka. Over 60 players participated in this year's tournament sponsored by Prima Bread indicating the growing popularity of the sport. Most previous winners like Mithun Perera, Amrit de Soysa, Thuashini Selavaratnam, Binupa Wijesinghe, Tissa Chandradasa, Lalith Kumara and Avinesh Nareshkumar have all gone on to become Sri Lanka's top golfers.
