Mama Mia extends screening with record collection

The highest box office around the world ‘Mama Mia’ has extended the holdover with its record breaking collection at the Majestic Cinema, Colombo.

The film version of the hit Broadway musical Mamma Mia with ‘ABBA’s greatest hits in Karaoke format will be screened till November 13.

While the film is to record $500 million in international grosses this week, it has passed over Rs. five million here.

The film which uses the hit music of the Swedish supergroup ABBA, had the largest opening weekend of any musical film in U.S. history and is set to become the highest grossing film of all time at the British box office.

According to the reports from, during the weekend, 90% of the audience were ladies and MC has turned to be a Karaoke hall as the audience joins Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Stellan Skarsgård, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth for a sing-along of ABBAs evergreen hits.

Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, who also helmed the stage version the plot concerns a young girl on a Greek island who's about to get married, and invites the three men she thinks might be her father, much to her mother's horror.

Audiences at these specially selected theatres will be invited to sing and dance along with ABBA hits including "Dancing Queen," "S.O.S.," "Money, Money, Money," "Take a Chance on Me," "Lay All Your Love on Me", "Voulez-Vous", Honey honey, and "Mamma Mia".

The film stars Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Amanda Seyfried, and Dominic Cooper.
